Turns out DL3 isnt the only place to benefit from the head technique thats similar to the Egg Quarters chest technique. No, Wild Canyon 3 wont benefit, since that level can be done normally in under 13, whereas the new trick will yield an identical run somewhere in the 14s, and a lot harder (due to the changed camera angle) to boot. The power of instantaneous warps from the dig panels is just too much to overcome there.
But what about Wild Canyon hard mode? Instead of hitting the dig warp from the start, you have to turn around upon picking up piece 1. Getting to the warp panel from there is actually faster than getting to the panel from start, but youre also even closer to a statue head thats in a much more favorable position...and keep in mind that a wall clip would mean you dont have to take that second dig through the room with 9 warp panels...
The bottom floor and secret rooms are shaped and positioned identically in Dry Lagoon to the way they are in Wild Canyon. The top floor/huge oasis are also shaped identically, apart from the oasis prison and its passageway, but theyre positioned differently in each level. Of course in WC its just directly over the bottom floor, but in DL its a good ways behind the back wall.
How conveniently, that means after breaking out at the head of the lonely statue, Im almost directly above the secret room with piece 2 and the 1 up (which becomes the Chao in m3). Thus this particular run has probably the coolest ending of anything Ive made for quite a while. |
