Originally from New Zealand. The La De Das started in the mid 60s as a Rolling Stones influenced garage R & B group (How is the Air up There) who, as dedicated followers of fashion, later took on a mod image and before the 60s were over also released a psychedelic concept album (Happy Price) complete with narration. While still dabbling in psychedelia the band moved to Australia and after another metamorphosis saw them adopt a boogie rock sound that especially appealed to male Aussie youth (al la Aztecs) and pushed them firmly to being one of the premier stadium rock bands of the time. With a guitar hero in Kevin Borich out front the La De Das and although a major drawcard, La De Das were very under recorded on vinyl. From after the release of Happy Prince in 69 through to the bands demise in 75 they released a number of singles (including two hits) and one legitimate album, Rock and Roll Sandwich. Four tracks from the album appeared on singles: This Place, No Law, She Tell Me What To Do and a 6:50 version of Temple Shuffle. Happy Prince has been officially released on CD. Seek it out as I expect it will become a collectable in its own right. |
