Video Info
| Description: |
The Clutha Mata Au is the largest river in New Zealand, and one of the swiftest in the world. From its source in the Southern Alps, it rushes 338kms through the Central Otago semi desert to the Pacific Ocean. Its clear turquoise waters are the result of glacial and snow melt filtering by upland lakes. The remarkable speed and colour of the Clutha Mata Au place it among the rarest rivers in the world. Large hydro electric dams have destroyed some of the most spectacular sections of the river, first in 1956, and again in 1993. Now, the dam builders are back, threatening to destroy what remains ... The song is titled Damn the Dam and is sung by the song writer John Hanlon. |
